THE SURPRISING INTIMACY OF VOICE
SESSION TWO | SATURDAY 17.05 | 1PM - 3PM
The voice is a most intimate kernel of the self, born deep inside the body. Its power source is pushed up by the diaphragm and rammed through the bottle neck of the upper respiratory tract, as water vapour, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide vibrate in the void between the mucous covered lips we know as vocal chords. The shaking air, gradually becomes more recogizably human as it gathers in our flesh, is conducted by our bones, and resonates in our empty spaces. Then out is goes... out of the body and into the world, seeking to meet its destiny, to penetrate the body of the other, and finally be heard.
In this workshop we will hear each other, intimately. Drawing on techniques from a wide range of fields including taoist sexual alchemy, experimental music, anatomy and physiology, yoga, and opera singing. Thinking with the voice as touch, as choreography, and an underrated site of intimacy and care, we will play with power and with the power of the voice.
